Hunter Homeless Connect Day is an annual event that brings together people experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity or disadvantage with vital services, practical support and genuine community connection.

In one welcoming and accessible location, guests can connect with housing and accommodation providers, health and wellbeing services, legal and financial assistance, employment and education opportunities, and a wide range of other community supports. The event is delivered in a respectful environment that prioritises dignity, removes barriers to accessing help and reminds every person that they are a valued member of our community.

In 2026, Hunter Homeless Connect Day was our largest event yet, with an estimated 5,000+ people coming through the venue across the day, demonstrating both the growing need across our community and the extraordinary collective response of the Hunter.

Since its beginnings in 2009, the event has developed into a major annual community initiative and a genuine one-stop connection point for people needing support. Services available can include housing assistance, help obtaining identification and birth certificates, legal and financial advice, energy assistance, employment and study pathways, and specialist support relating to domestic and family violence, mental health, and drug and alcohol issues. Guests can also access a range of free health and wellbeing services, alongside practical assistance such as food, clothing and personal care.

Just as importantly, Hunter Homeless Connect Day is about creating a sense of belonging and community. Free haircuts, food, live entertainment and activities contribute to a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere where people can connect with services – and with each other – without judgement. Hunter Homeless Connect Day is made possible through a remarkable community collaboration of government and non-government organisations, volunteers, businesses and supporters. The event is proudly supported by Port Waratah Coal Services as our Major Event Sponsor and Home in Place, which provides a dedicated event coordination role, together with the generous in-kind and financial contributions of community partners and individuals from across the Hunter.
